Dutch and German Translations

Welcome to Van Schelven Translations – your translation office for Dutch and German translations and proofreading.

My translations are readable and speak to your target audience. Or maybe you already have some translated texts and need a professional proofreader? If you need translations for your websites, press releases, technical documents, social media articles or user manuals, I’m at your service.

I’m based near Frankfurt and deliver translations and proofreading to clients in Europe, especially in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Austria. As a freelance translator I also work for other translation agencies in Europe, so if you need your translations in any other language, just let me know.

Translation service

Human Translations

To give translations a human touch in times of AI, all texts are translated manually. A human translator is always the better option, especially when you want to communicate directly to your customers.

The use of CAT (Computer Aided Translation) software ensures consistency of terminology and quality – for example, by using in  terminology lists or previously translated texts. Nothing is translated twice and therfore not paid for twice, saving time and money.

My translation rates vary between 10 and 14 cents per word of source text (excluding vat), depending on the level of difficulty and the deadline. The minimum charge is €35 net per job. After receiving your files or text samples, I will send you a quotation with a delivery date.

Proofreading

What is Proofreading about?

Proofreading translations obviously involves correct spelling, grammar and punctuation. Is the translation containing all data and sentences from the source text? Does the text need to be adapted or localized to match target groups in other countries?

In German, the comma rules are generally much ore strict than in English or Dutch. A missing comma is considered an error in German, as is an omitted capital letter.

For proofreading I charge between 2 and 4 cents per source word or an hourly rate. For post-editing (MTPE) I charge different rates per word. The minimum charge is €35 net per job.

Final testing

Final Product Testing

Translations mostly need to be visually appealing, for example in displays or apps. Space is often limited and needs to be used well. This means that in these cases translated texts shoud be short and clear.

Testing translations on the final product, such as in-car media systems, apps or on other screens, is an important step in product development today. After all, no customer wants to be bothered by incorrect or unclear instructions and help texts in a product or application.

Final product testing is usually carried out at the customer’s premises. For these projects daily or hourly rates apply plus travel expenses.
